Cardinals Take Season Opener over WestConn

Kyle Norchi Scores Four Goals

LINDENHURST, N.Y.  - The Plattsburgh State men's lacrosse team moved to 2-2 in season openers under Coach P.J. Kavanagh with a 14-12 non-conference victory Friday against Western Connecticut in a neutral-site contest played at Lindenhurst Middle School. The Colonials, who are two years removed from an NCAA tournament appearance, now stand at 0-2.

Kyle Norchi led the Cardinals with four goals and an assist while Luke Weidlein posted three goals and two assists. Patrick Wright also had three goals and Pat Nastro and Luke Flegar both chipped in two.

Logan Carpenter had 15 saves for Plattsburgh while his counterpart Tyler Martone made 16, including some in spectacular fashion, to keep WestConn in the game.

Plattsburgh face-off specialist Ryan Price went 16-of-26 at the X and picked up 10 ground balls.

The teams were tied 6-6 at halftime before designated host Plattsburgh scored five unanswered goals in the third period to turn an 8-6 deficit into an 11-8 lead going into the fourth. The Cardinals never looked back after that, but did have to hold off a Colonials comeback bid.

Mike Schoen paced the Colonials offense with three goals and two assists, and Adam Lanehart had four tallies.
