NORTHPORT, N.Y. - Plattsburgh State scored nine times in the first quarter on Wednesday en route to a 25-8 shellacking of Briarcliffe College in non-conference men's lacrosse action at Veteran's Park, improving the team's record to 4-1 on the season.
The Cardinals added six goals in the second quarter to take a commanding 15-4 lead at the halftime break.
Luke Weidlein and Kyle Norchi each had four goals and four assists, and Weidlein became the first Cardinal to eclipse the 200-point plateau. He extended his school record to 203 career points.
"It was a wild game early. We came out hard and executed like we know we can," Plattsburgh coach P.J. Kavanagh said after the game. "It was a good win for us to bounce back after a tough loss in our last game at Saint Mary's. We look forward to progressing this week and keep improving."
Also shining for the Cardinals were Pete Morgan who had five goals and Ryan Price scooped up 19 ground balls. In addition, all four goalies saw action--Danny Caufield, Gordie Gehring, Joey Carni and Logan Carpenter--and recorded three saves apiece.
Plattsburgh went 3-for-3 in man-up situations and successfully killed off nine of 10 Briarcliffe opportunities.
John Bonacore led the Seahawks with three goals and an assist.
