Moberg's Second Goal Lifts Cardinals in Overtime

Game-Winner Scored with 26 Seconds Left

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. - Stephanie Moberg scored her second goal of the game with 26 seconds remaining in overtime to lift host Plattsburgh State to a 2-1 non-conference women's hockey win against Manhattanville on Sunday at the Stafford Ice Arena. The top-ranked Cardinals improve to 19-1-2 to extend the nation's best 14-game unbeaten streak while the No. 9 Valiants (16-6-1) lose back-to-back games for the first time this season after a seven-game winning streak. The contest was played in front of a season-high home crowd of 499 as part of the Stuff Stafford More promotion.  Both teams and fans contributed to a fund-raiser for Vermont-based Camp Takumta, a caring and loving place for children from the region who are affected by cancer.

The game-winning goal developed when a Manhattanville player was dislodged from the puck in her offensive zone and Plattsburgh countered with a two-on-one rush the other way. Steph Moon fed Moberg with a pass and then the senior co-captain backhanded a shot just under the crossbar for her team-leading 19th goal of the season.

Sonia Occhionero put the Valiants up 1-0 midway through the first period on assists by Erin Brawley and Monique Rafferty.

Moberg tied it with her first goal of the afternoon early in the second period. She picked up a loose puck near the left face-off circle and blasted a shot that hit the middle support post and caromed out.

Plattsburgh outshot Manhattanville 36 to 20, and both goaltenders played well.  Sophia Kokkonis had 34 saves for the Valiants.  Mandy Mackrell made 19, including several terrfic stops on shots from close range.
