Cardinal Women Blank Bengals to Advance to SUNYAC Championship Game

ONEONTA, N.Y.
– Liz Radigan scored a goal and assisted on another as the Plattsburgh State women’s soccer team defeated the Buffalo State Bengals, 4-0, to advance to the State University of New York Athletic Conference Championship game.

Radigan opened the scoring for the Cardinals at 29:59 of the first half, scoring off a direct kick.  Five minutes later, Lindsey Keyser broke in to blast a pass from Liz Radigan past Buffalo State goalie, Virginia Porten, giving Plattsburgh a two-goal lead.

Emily Riley knocked in a loose ball at the top of the box just 46 seconds into the second half, stretching the Cardinals’ lead to 3-0.

Plattsburgh’s Rachelle Scott dealt the final blow to the Bengals, scoring on a rebound off the crossbar at 59:30 of the second half.  Noelle Lombardo was credited with an assist on the goal.

The Cardinals held the slight edge in shots, 13-12.  Radigan led the offensive attack with five shots, four of which were on goal.

Alina Greiser made five saves in the Plattsburgh victory.  The shutout marks Greiser’s eleventh of the season, good for second on the all-time list behind Sue Kerwin with 12.
Porten made six saves for the Bengals in 62:40 minutes in net.  Linda Banfield was untested in the Buffalo State net in the final 27 minutes of play.

Plattsburgh is set to battle the Oneonta State Red Dragons at 1:30 p.m. tomorrow afternoon at Red Dragon Soccer Field for the SUNYAC Championship.  Oneonta defeated Cortland earlier today, 2-0, to advance to the championship game.
