Bowler Notches 100th Career Point as Cards Edge RIT

Plattsburgh Wins 4-3

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. - Laurie Bowler recorded her 100th career point to help the Plattsburgh State women's hockey team eke out a 4-3 victory Friday over visiting Rochester Tech in Eastern College Athletic Conference West Division action at the Stafford Ice Arena. The nationally No. 3-ranked Cardinals improve to 11-1-1 overall and strengthen their first-place grip in the conference standings at 9-0-1, while the No. 4 Tigers fall to 10-3-3 and 5-2-2. BOXSCORE

Defenseman Erika Shaubel scored what proved to be the game-winning goal 3 minutes and 11 seconds into the third period, giving Plattsburgh a commanding 4-1 advantage. The Cardinals were skating with an extra attacker as RIT was being called for a delayed penalty when Shaubel blasted a slap shot from the right point over the left shoulder of goaltender Amy Torgerson.

The Tigers scored two goals 1:07 apart in the final 2 minutes of the game to make things interesting, but couldn't get the equalizer to force overtime. Melissa Hall scored her eighth goal of the season and Katie Stack her league-best 17th to make it a 4-3 score.

Bowler's milestone came 1:31 into the final period when she banged home her sixth goal from the slot on a nice feed from the back of the net by Steph Moon. Bowler becomes the second Cardinal this season and seventh in school history to reach 100 career points. She now has 63 goals and 37 assists in 98 games in a red and white uniform.

Stephanie Moberg and Megan DiJulio helped give Plattsburgh a 2-1 lead after two periods.

RIT outshot Plattsburgh 35 to 24, including an 11-4 margin in a scoreless first stanza. The Cardinals' Mandy Mackrell made a career-high 32 saves, including a glove stop off the stick of Kim Schlattman from point-blank range just seconds after the game's opening faceoff--one of three shots on the RIT power play as a result of a Plattsburgh protocol violation before the game even began--to keep it 0-0.
