BUFFALO, N.Y. - The Plattsburgh State women's soccer team suffered a heartbreaking loss to State University of New York Athletic Conference opponent Buffalo State in Buffalo, N.Y. The Cardinals fell 0-3 after outshooting their host 19-7.Plattsburgh falls to 8-4-2 on the year, 3-3-2 in the SUNYAC, while Buffalo State now stands at 5-3-5 for the season, 3-2-1 in conference play.
The Bengals scored their first goal during the 16th minute when Barb Kiliszek took a long shot from the 18 and scored, unassisted. Amanda Sauer knocked in the next goal for Buffalo State during the 57th minute. After a shot by Kristina Boberskyj was deflected off a Cardinal defender, Sauer succeeded in placing it in the back of the net.
Leigh Krzyzanowski recorded the last goal of the game for the Bengals. Krzyzanowski booted in the breakaway goal at the 69:30 mark, having received the ball from teammate Courtney Hilliker.
Olivia Hopeck, Kaitlin Collica, Danielle Wiemer, Emily Riley, Helen Giroux, and Megan Rivage all recorded a shot each for Plattsburgh. Meanwhile, Ricci Celia spent all 90 minutes between the pipes for the Cardinals, racking up three saves during the contest.
For Buffalo State, Kiliszek topped the team with three shots, followed by Krzyzanowski with two. Bengal goalkeeper Meghan Jarrell was able to scoop up all six shots on goal by the Cardinals. Virginia Porten split time with Jarrell in goal, guarding the net for the Begals for just under seven minutes during the game.
The Cardinals finish up their regular season SUNYAC schedule at Fredonia tomorrow, October 17, at 1 p.m.
