Yarkosky Advances to Finals with AARTFC Mark in 400-Meter Dash as Women’s Track and Field Opens SUNYAC Outdoor Championships

CORTLAND, N.Y. – Senior Grace Yarkosky (South Lyon, Mich. / South Lyon) of the Plattsburgh State women's track and field team placed first in the 400-meter dash with an All-Atlantic Region Track and Field Conference (AARTFC) qualifying mark of 56.55 seconds, advancing to tomorrow's finals as the Cardinals began action at the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Outdoor Track and Field Championships. After one day of competition, Plattsburgh has five points and is tied for seventh place.

In the 400-meter hurdles, sophomore Isabella Scott (Valatie, N.Y. / Ichabod Crane) qualified for the finals with a fourth-place time of 1:05.43, an AARTFC qualifying mark. Scott also advanced to the finals in the 100-meter hurdles, clocking a time of 15.78 seconds for fifth place. Other notable performances came from first-year Kaitlyn MacDougall (Fonda, N.Y. / Fonda-Fultonville), who recorded a personal-best time of 1:13.54 for 11th place in the 400-meter hurdles, and sophomore Lexi McDonald (Altona, N.Y. / Northern Adirondack), who posted a personal-best time of 16.53 seconds for 12th place in the 100-meter hurdles.

The Cardinals had two athletes qualify for the 400-meter dash finals, as sophomore Brianna Wise (Niskayuna, N.Y. / Niskayuna) also advanced with a sixth-place finish in 1:01.03.

Senior Ginny Lucchetti (Marcellus, N.Y. / Marcellus) secured a spot in tomorrow's finals with a sixth-place finish in the 800-meter run, recording a time of 2:26.37.

In distance action, junior Lillian Moran (Albany, N.Y. / Colonie Central) placed eighth in the 10,000-meter run with a personal-best time of 42:01.81, earning a point for Plattsburgh.

In the throwing events, junior Taygin Jump (Coupeville, Wash. / Coupeville) scored for the Cardinals in the javelin with a fifth-place throw of 26.99 meters. She also competed in the hammer throw, recording a personal-best mark of 42.26 meters to place 10th.

The Cardinals will resume competition at the SUNYAC Outdoor Championships tomorrow at the SUNY Cortland Stadium Complex, beginning at 10 a.m.
