SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Sophomore midfielder
Ethan Francey (Canton, N.Y. / Canton) of the Plattsburgh State men's lacrosse team has been named the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Defensive Athlete of the Week for the period ending Apr. 19, as announced by the conference office on Monday. It marks the second weekly honor of Francey's career and the fifth overall for the Cardinals this season. The team has now earned three SUNYAC Defensive Athlete of the Week accolades and two SUNYAC Offensive Athlete of the Week honors.
Francey played a key role in Plattsburgh's defensive effort in a 13-8 win over Canton, consistently pressuring opposing offenses and creating extra possession opportunities throughout the game. The sophomore midfielder recorded four caused turnovers and added four ground balls, finishing with a team-high in caused turnovers. His disruptive presence helped slow opposing attacks and generate momentum shifts for the Cardinals. Francey also made a strong impact offensively, recording a career-high five points on a career-high four goals and an assist, a total that tied for the game high and led the team. His all-around performance was instrumental in Plattsburgh's success.
Plattsburgh State is currently 9-3 (4-1 SUNYAC) and will return to action on Wednesday, Apr. 22, hosting Oneonta for a 4 p.m. opening faceoff.
