CANTON, N.Y. – The Plattsburgh State men's lacrosse team traveled to Canton on Saturday afternoon and defeated the Kangaroos 13-8 in State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) play. Senior midfielders Tim Keenan (Poughquag, N.Y. / Arlington) and George Rhatigan (Bethlehem, N.Y. / Bethlehem Central) each recorded a goal and an assist. Defensively, senior Kevin Murray (Bellmore, N.Y. / Kellenberg Memorial) collected five ground balls and two caused turnovers, while junior goalie Cole Orehosky (Hauppauge, N.Y. / Hauppauge) made 11 saves in the win for Plattsburgh.

For the Kangaroos, Jonney Mclear led the way with five goals for five points, followed by Eli Bullock with two goals and an assist for three points. Liam Waite won a game-high 12 faceoffs, while Garritt Palmer finished with a game-high 19 saves in the loss for Canton.

Plattsburgh held advantages in shots, 52-31, and ground balls, 45-40, while Canton narrowly led faceoffs, 13-12. The Cardinals converted twice on four extra-man opportunities, compared to Canton's 1-for-5 mark. Plattsburgh also went 23-for-25 on clears, while the Kangaroos finished 17-for-22.

The Kangaroos opened the scoring in an early back-and-forth contest and jumped out to a 2-0 lead. However, the Cardinals responded emphatically with four straight goals, capped by a tally from Francey at the 3:42 mark to take a 4-2 advantage. Canton answered with the final goal of the quarter, as Plattsburgh held a 4-3 lead after one.

It was Francey again to open the second quarter, scoring at the 9:28 mark to extend the Cardinals' lead. Canton responded with its only goal of the period at 2:42, before Francey struck again for his second goal of the quarter, sending Plattsburgh into halftime with a 6-4 lead.

The Cardinals came out of the break with early momentum, tacking on back-to-back goals as Urso finished a pass from Fynn Whitlock (Middlebury, Vt. / Middlebury Union) and Francey added his fourth goal of the game. Canton briefly halted the run, but Plattsburgh continued to apply pressure, stringing together a five-goal surge capped by Keenan to close the third quarter and take a 13-5 lead into the final quarter.

Canton held Plattsburgh scoreless in the fourth quarter, but the Cardinals' advantage was enough to secure the 13-8 victory.
