SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Sophomore midfielder
Ethan Francey (Canton, N.Y. / Canton) of the Plattsburgh State men's lacrosse team was named the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Defensive Athlete of the Week for the period ending Mar. 29, as announced by the conference office on Monday. It marks the first weekly honor of Francey's career and the second for the Cardinals this season, as the team has now earned back-to-back SUNYAC Defensive Athlete of the Week accolades.
Francey played a pivotal role in the Cardinals' defensive effort in their 10-6 win in their SUNYAC opener against New Paltz. The sophomore midfielder recorded a career- and game-high six caused turnovers, tied for fifth in program history for a single game, and added two ground balls, consistently disrupting the Hawks' offensive rhythm. He also showed strong composure with possession, committing just one turnover, and contributed offensively with a goal and an assist, helping Plattsburgh secure the conference-opening win.
Plattsburgh State is currently 6‑2 (1‑0 SUNYAC) and will return to action Friday, Apr. 3, for a 2 p.m. opening faceoff at Oswego State.
