CORTLAND, N.Y. – Senior
Grace Yarkosky (South Lyon, Mich. / South Lyon) of the Plattsburgh State women's track and field team has been named the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Indoor Track Athlete of the Year, as announced by the conference office on Tuesday morning. The honor marks Yarkosky's first SUNYAC Track Athlete of the Year award and the program's first since Elisabeth Plympton in 2018.
Most recently, Yarkosky earned First Team All-America honors and Mideast All-Region recognition. She was also named to the All-State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) First Team following her performance at the SUNYAC Championships.
Yarkosky was a driving force for the Cardinals throughout the indoor season, breaking three program records along the way. She reset the 400-meter dash record four times, ultimately setting the current program mark and delivering her fastest performance when it mattered most at the NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships. There, she finished second in 54.41 seconds to earn First Team All-America honors, the first of her career, and became the program's first indoor All-American since Elisabeth Plympton in 2018.
The senior sprinter opened the championship season by winning the 400-meter dash at the SUNYAC Championships in 56.95 seconds. She followed with another victory at the All-Atlantic Region Track and Field Conference (AARTFC) Championships, crossing the line in 55.61 seconds. She also contributed to the Cardinals' 4x400-meter relay team, which won the conference title with a time of 4:02.21. Throughout the season, Yarkosky was named SUNYAC Track Athlete of the Week twice, for the periods ending Jan. 18 and Feb. 1.
Reilly Quinn of Cortland was named Indoor Field Athlete of the Year, while Emma Pelkey of Delhi earned Indoor Track & Field Rookie of the Year honors. Head coach Steve Patrick and his staff at Cortland were recognized as the Coaching Staff of the Year.
