BROCKPORT, N.Y. – The Plattsburgh State women's track and field 4x400-meter relay team and senior
Grace Yarkosky (South Lyon, Mich. / South Lyon) led the charge for the Cardinals on Day Two of the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Indoor Track & Field Championships, capturing the two gold medals for the team.
Plattsburgh finished in fourth place, totaling 50 points, while Cortland won the meet with 199.5 points.
Junior
Grace Estus (Clifton Park, N.Y. / Shenendehowa) and sophomore
Lexi McDonald (Altona, N.Y. / Northern Adirondack) were awarded the prestigious SUNYAC Elite 20 award, an award modeled after the NCAA ELITE 90 program, which recognizes the true essence of the student-athlete by honoring the individual who has reached the pinnacle of competition at the conference championship level in his or her sport, while also achieving the highest academic standard among his or her peers. Estus, a creative writing major, and McDonald, a psychology major, both currently maintain perfect 4.0 GPAs.
The team of sophomore
Isabella Scott (Valatie, N.Y. / Ichabod Crane), sophomore
Brianna Wise (Niskayuna, N.Y. / Niskayuna), sophomore
Emma Mahoney (Spencerport, N.Y. / Spencerport), and Yarkosky posted a time of 4:02.21, which was also an All-Atlantic Region Track & Field Conference (AARTFC) qualifying mark. Yarkosky also won an individual gold medal in the 400-meter dash, clocking an AARTFC qualifying time of 56.95 seconds.
Senior
Marissa Colvin (South Glens Falls, N.Y. / South Glens Falls) scored five points in the 3,000-meter run, just missing out on a medal, timing in at 10:37.10, an AARTFC qualifying mark, for fourth place. Estus also competed in the event, placing sixth in 10:41.61 for three points.
First-year
Jaelynn Lacey (Plattsburgh, N.Y. / Plattsburgh) cleared 1.47 meters in the high jump, placing seventh and earning two points, while sophomore
Ellie LeRoy (Malone, N.Y. / Franklin Academy) and McDonald both scored a point towards the team score as well. LeRoy came in eighth in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:27.57, and McDonald clocked a time of 10.76 seconds in the 60-meter hurdles.
The 4x400-meter relay team secured All-SUNYAC First Team honors in the 4x400-meter relay with their performance, while Yarkosky earned All-SUNYAC First Team honors in the 400-meter dash.
The Cardinals are next in action at the AARTFC Championships, which will occur on Mar. 6 and 7 at the Nike Track & Field Center at The Armory.
