Women’s Track and Field Competes in Annual Plattsburgh State Home Meet

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. – The Plattsburgh State women's track and field team competed in the Plattsburgh State Tuesday Track & Field Meet on Tuesday evening, as seven Cardinals were victors on their home track. For the fourth straight year, Plattsburgh State was able to host their lone meet of the year, competing once again against St. Lawrence and Potsdam, with Mohawk Valley Community College joining the teams this year.

During the meet, Plattsburgh State recognized six seniors in Marissa Colvin (South Glens Falls, N.Y. / South Glens Falls), Nora Graves (Plattsburgh, N.Y. / Plattsburgh), Ginny Lucchetti (Marcellus, N.Y. / Marcellus), Mikayla Khadijah (Cairo, N.Y. / Cairo-Durham), Marissa LeDuc (Saranac, N.Y. / Saranac), and Grace Yarkosky (South Lyon, Mich. / South Lyon).

In the sprint events, sophomore Lexi McDonald (Altona, N.Y. / Northern Adirondack) led the way with a first-place finish in the 55-meter dash, clocking 7.65 seconds, recording a new personal best. Junior Deja Davis (Bronx, N.Y. / Paul Robeson) wasn't far behind, timing in at 7.98 seconds for third place, which was also a personal best. Sophomore Anni Schneider (Latham, N.Y. / Shaker) also timed in at 7.98 seconds and finished behind Davis in fourth-place.

In the 55-meter hurdles, sophomore Isabella Scott (Valatie, N.Y. / Ichabod Crane) had a strong performance with her first-place finish coming in at 8.93 seconds. McDonald finished in 9.41 seconds for third, and Khadijah followed in fourth with a time of 9.69 seconds, a new personal best. First-year Addison Burt (Liverpool, N.Y.) ran a solid race in the preliminaries, just missing out on qualifying with a mark of 9.98 seconds.

McDonald had a strong day for the Cardinals, also taking first place in the 200-meter dash with her time of 27.94 seconds. Scott placed second with a mark of 28.34 seconds, and Schneider came in at 29.77 seconds, sliding in fourth with a new personal best. First-year Margot Danziger (Bethlehem, N.Y / Bethlehem Central) also competed in the 200-meter dash, just barely missing her personal best with a time of 30.88 seconds.

The 400-meter dash saw first-year Alexa Markowicz (Peru, N.Y.) finish in 1:09.54 for second place, while first-year Kaitlyn MacDougall (Fonda, N.Y. / Fonda-Fultonville) clocked a time of 1:09.83 for fourth.

The Cardinals had four athletes run the 800-meter run, led by sophomore Ellie LeRoy (Malone, N.Y. / Franklin Academy) in first place with a mark of 2:27.98. Junior Grace Estus (Clifton Park, N.Y. / Shenendehowa) followed in second place, coming in at 2:29.41, then it was Lucchetti in third with a personal best time of 2:29.69. Junior Lillian Moran (Albany, N.Y. / Colonie Central) rounded off the finishes in fourth with a mark of 2:35.48.

In mid-distance action, sophomore Ella Stuttard (Oriskany Falls, N.Y. / Waterville) paced the Cardinals in the one-mile run, finishing in 5:49.19 for second place, running the best time of her career in the event. Lexie Rostak (Plattsburgh, N.Y. / Beekmantown) ran a strong race as well, recording a new personal best by over seven seconds with a time of 6:10.23. Sophomore Isabelle Cunningham (Bethlehem, N.Y. / Bethlehem) rounded out the Cardinal finishers, recording a new personal best time of 6:23.12, besting her previous mark by over 20 seconds.

LeDuc and first-year Jocelyn Harrington (South Glens Falls, N.Y. / South Glens Falls) highlighted the jumps with first-place finishes. LeDuc took first place in the long jump, with a mark of 4.98 meters, while Harrington took first place in the triple jump with a personal best jump of 9.88 meters.

In the high jump, first-year Jaelynn Lacey (Plattsburgh, N.Y. / Plattsburgh) had a solid jump of 1.47 meters for second place, just missing her personal best. First-year Chloe Elliott (Bronx, N.Y. / Belmont Preparatory) followed in third with a jump of 1.37 meters.

LeDuc had the best outing in the shot put, placing second with a throw of 9.43 meters, followed by first-year Elise Lendrum (Westerlo, N.Y. / Berne Knox Westerlo) in third with a throw of 9.19 meters.

Junior Taygin Jump (Coupeville, Wash. / Coupeville) took first place in the weight throw with a personal best throw of 13.64 meters

The Cardinals will return to action on Saturday, Feb. 14, when those who qualify travel to Boston University for the David Hemery Valentine Invitational and Tufts for the Tufts Cupid Challenge.
