Yarkosky Breaks Program 600-Meter Indoor Record as Women’s Track and Field Competes at the Middlebury Winter Classic

MIDDLEBURY, Vt. – The Plattsburgh State women's track and field team traveled to Middlebury to compete in the Middlebury Winter Classic. Senior Grace Yarkosky (South Lyon, Mich. / South Lyon) broke the indoor program record in the 600-meter run, posting a new program-best time of 1:35.01.

The meet opened in the field with the weight throw, where junior Taygin Jump (Coupeville, Wash. / Coupeville) led the Cardinals with a throw of 12.88 meters for eighth place. First-year Elise Lendrum (Westerlo, N.Y. / Berne-Knox Westerlo) recorded her best throw of the day with a toss of 8.07 meters. In the shot put, Lendrum posted a personal-best throw of 9.05 meters, finishing 11th overall.

Action on the runway began with the long jump, as Isabella Scott (Valatie, N.Y. / Ichabod Crane) recorded a jump of 4.34 meters to pace the Cardinals' jumping unit.

On the track, the 60-meter hurdles finals saw Scott claim seventh place with a time of 10.37 seconds. In the 60-meter dash finals, Lexi McDonald (Peru, N.Y. / Peru) finished in 8.31 seconds for sixth place, a new career best.

Distance runners took over during the mile, as Ellie LeRoy (Malone, N.Y. / Franklin Academy) crossed the line at 5:40.59, finishing in 19th place.

Field events continued with the high jump, as Jaelynn Lacey (Plattsburgh, N.Y. / Plattsburgh) cleared 1.53 meters, a new personal best. Chloe Elliott (Bronx, N.Y. / Belmont Preparatory) also recorded a new personal best with a jump of 1.43 meters.

Mid-distance action followed in the 800-meter race, as Lillian Moran (Albany, N.Y. / Colonie Central) finished in 2:39.55 for fourth place. In the 1000-meter race, Nora Graves (Plattsburgh, N.Y. / Plattsburgh) paced the Cardinals with a time of 3:47.88 for 18th place.

In the 200-meter dash, Brianna Wise (Niskayuna, N.Y. / Niskayuna) clocked 28.23 seconds to place sixth, and McDonald ran 28.31 seconds to place seventh, a personal best.

The 3000-meter race capped individual events, as Marissa Colvin (South Glens Falls, N.Y. / South Glens Falls) finished in 11:01.02, placing 15th.

Relay action rounded out the meet, starting with the 4x200-meter relay. The team of Annie Schneider (Latham, N.Y. / Shaker), Kaitlyn MacDougall (Fonda, N.Y. / Fonda-Fultonville), Margot Danziger (Bethlehem, N.Y. / Bethlehem Central), and Alexa Markowicz (Peru, N.Y.) finished in 1:58.81 for third place. The day concluded with the 4x400-meter relay. The team of Ella Stuttard (Oriskany Falls, N.Y. / Waterville), Nora Graves, Ellie LeRoy, and Lillian Moran finished in 4:52.63, a new personal best, placing third.

The Cardinals are next in action on Saturday, Jan. 24, when they travel to St. Lawrence to compete in the St. Lawrence Invitational.
