PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. – The Plattsburgh State women's cross country team finished second with a score of 47 at the 43rd Annual Cardinal Classic on Saturday, August 30. The Cardinals had two top ten finishers, as junior
Grace Estus (Clifton Park, N.Y. / Shenendehowa) came across the line in seventh, followed by senior
Marissa Colvin (South Glens Falls, N.Y. / South Glens Falls) in eighth.
In the team standings, the Cardinals finished in front of third-place Clarkson (81) and fourth-place Paul Smith's (114). St. Lawrence took home first place (15).
Estus crossed the line at 19:29.2, shortly followed by Colvin at 19:55.5, as both Estus and Colvin recorded new personal bests on the Rugar Woods 5K course. First-year
Ellie LeRoy (Malone, N.Y. / Franklin Academy) and sophomore
Ella Stuttard (Oriskany Falls, N.Y. / Waterville) started the next wave of finishers, placing 14th (20:17.8) and 15th (20:33.6), as Stuttard bested her previous time by nearly three minutes. Junior
Lillian Moran rounded out the scoring group with an 18th-place finish, recording a time of 21:28.9.
Senior
Ginny Lucchetti (Marcellus, N.Y. / Marcellus) and sophomore
Isabelle Cunningham (Bethlehem, N.Y. / Bethlehem) closed out the top seven for Plattsburgh, posting times of 21:49.1 and 22:22.8, while Lucchetti saw improvement on her previous course time.
Graduate Student
Nora Graves (Plattsburgh, N.Y. / Plattsburgh), sophomore
Jillian Head (Sloatsburg, N.Y. / Suffern), and junior
Julia Robinson (Chester Springs, Pa. / Downingtown East) all set new personal bests at Rugar Woods. Graves finished at 22:56.6, Head came in at 24:35.3, and Robinson posted a time of 25:06.3.
Sophomore
Willow McLean (Norfolk, Conn. / Plattsburgh) and first-years
Hailey Bogdanowicz-Wilson (Schenectady, N.Y. / Schenectady) and
Lizzie Owens (Washington, D.C. Vicenza) all competed in their first collegiate 5K race. McLean recorded a time of 25:46.3, followed by Bogdanowicz-Wilson and Owens with times of 27:19.4 and 27:24.5.
The Cardinals are back in action at 12 p.m. on Sept. 13 at home for the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Preview.
