Men’s Soccer Secures Weekend Sweep with 1-0 Victory at Ramapo

MAHWAH, N.J. – The Plattsburgh State men's soccer team capped off a successful opening weekend with a hard-fought 1-0 road win over Ramapo College on Saturday afternoon, improving to 2-0 on the season.

Just 24 hours after a 2-0 shutout victory over Manhattanville in their season opener, the Cardinals wasted no time getting on the board against Ramapo. In just the fourth minute, junior transfer Gabriel Moscheni (Lynbrook, N.Y./Lynbrook) found the back of the net for his first goal as a Cardinal, giving Plattsburgh an early 1-0 lead, a lead that would ultimately hold for the rest of the match.

The Cardinals dominated the first half, outshooting Ramapo 8-2 and controlling the pace of play. Despite several quality chances, Plattsburgh was unable to extend its lead before the break, heading into halftime with a narrow advantage.

The second half saw a momentum shift, as Ramapo came out strong, putting the Cardinals under sustained pressure. The Roadrunners outshot Plattsburgh 7-3 in the second frame but couldn't break through a disciplined Cardinal defense.

Goalkeeper Matthew D'Ippolito (Baldwin Place, N.Y./Somers) was sharp once again, making three saves to record his second consecutive clean sheet. The sophomore now holds two shutouts in as many games, anchoring a Plattsburgh back line that has yet to concede a goal this season.

Key to the Cardinals' defensive success were strong performances from senior Randall Ashong (Nungua, Ghana/Arlington), junior Jake McGowan (Warwick, N.Y./Warwick Valley), and sophomore Jack Murphy (Blauvelt, N.Y./Tappan Zee), all three played the full 90 minutes, helping to seal the team's second straight shutout.

With the win, Plattsburgh improves to 2-0 on the season and will now turn its attention to its home opener on Wednesday, September 3, when the Cardinals host Norwich University at 7 p.m. under the lights at the Field House Complex.
