PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. - The Plattsburgh State men's soccer team dominated possession and chances in its home opener on Wednesday night but was unable to find the breakthrough goal, settling for a 0-0 draw against Norwich University at the Field House Complex.
The Cardinals, who entered the match 2-0, were meeting the Cadets for the first time since 2017, having won the previous seven matchups dating back to 2011. Plattsburgh controlled the first half with a commanding 12-1 advantage in shots. Their best chance came in the 17th minute when Xavier Kamba (Nyack, N.Y./Nyack) rattled the crossbar, but Norwich's compact defensive shape kept the match scoreless at halftime.
The second half saw even greater pressure from the Cardinals, who finished with a staggering 29-1 edge in total shots. Despite the relentless attack, Norwich withstood the pressure to escape with the draw.
While the offense was left frustrated, the defensive pairing of seniors Randall Ashong (Nungua, Ghana/Arlington) and Danny Perry Shirley, N.Y./Longwood) ensured the Cadets were held without a single shot on target, keeping the clean sheet intact for the Cardinals.
With the result, Plattsburgh moves to 2-0-1 on the season. The Cardinals continue their homestand on Saturday, Sept. 6, when they host St. Lawrence University at 4 p.m.
