As a part of the 2025 Division III Week from April 7-13, Plattsburgh State Athletics will be unveiling a new Q&A each day during the week to highlight some of the student-athletes at Plattsburgh State who embody the ideals of a Division III student-athlete. Day one features junior Sanaia Estime of the women's volleyball team.
Q: Why Division III?
I decided to play a division III sport because I wanted to stay involved with athletics after high school. I also wanted to be able to balance my sports and my classes without getting overwhelmed
Q: What is your favorite part about being a Division III student-athlete?Â
My favorite part about being a student athlete is the bonds and relationships made within the program. Getting to know other athletes, coaches, staff, etc., makes it easy to go about your daily life.
Q: What core values do you associate with being a Division III student-athlete?Â
My core values as a student athlete would be time management between all outside factors along with my sport. Along with teamwork and leadership because having strength in can help you a lot on and off the court.
Q: Do you find it challenging to balance athletics and academics?Â
There are times when I feel overwhelmed by the number of things I need to get done, on top of my sports obligations, but I manage pretty well by taking everything one day at a time.
Q: In one word, how would you describe being a student-athlete?Â
Balanced.
Q: What is the most rewarding aspect of being a Division III student-athlete?
Putting in a lot of hard work during the off-season and seeing everything come together once you are back with your team in season.
Q: What has been your favorite moment here at Plattsburgh State?
Traveling home from Geneseo, and our bus broke down. It sounds like it would not be a fun experience, but in that moment, we were all able to bond and make the most out of the situation.
Q: What does it mean to you to represent Plattsburgh State on and off the field, court, track, etc.?Â
Representing Plattsburgh State as a student-athlete means embodying pride, dedication, and integrity in everything I do. On the court, it means competing with passion, sportsmanship, and motivation to improve. Off the court, it means being a leader in the classroom and a role model in the community.
