Division III Week Q&A: Mikayla Khadijah

4/12/2025 1:00:00 PM

As a part of the 2025 Division III Week from April 7-13, Plattsburgh State Athletics will be unveiling a new Q&A each day during the week to highlight some of the student-athletes at Plattsburgh State who embody the ideals of a Division III student-athlete. Day six features junior Mikayla Khadijah of the women's track and field team.

Q: Why Division III?
I chose Division III because I really wanted to join a team where I was still able to do my sport but spent the majority of my time and focus on being a student. It also allows for more people who also want to do sports to join because this division isn't as exclusive.

Q: What is your favorite part about being a Division III student-athlete?
My favorite part about being a D3 student-athlete is the balance between my sport and my education. It allows me to focus on my schoolwork while also doing the thing I love. My sport is my escape when it comes to challenging times during school, so that also is a plus.

Q: What core values do you associate with being a Division III student-athlete?
Some core values I associate with being a D3 student-athlete are teamwork, passion, community, and most importantly, balance.

Q: Do you find it challenging to balance athletics and academics?
I personally don't find it difficult to balance athletics and academics because I set up a very good schedule for myself to be able to navigate through the two lives.

Q: In one word, how would you describe being a student-athlete?
Motivating.

Q: What is the most rewarding aspect of being a Division III student-athlete?
I think the most rewarding part is the "family" environment. I know that I can always rely on my team when I need their support.

Q: What has been your favorite moment here at Plattsburgh State?
I think my favorite moment here at Plattsburgh would have to be my freshman year when my teammates and I all went in the river after volleyball team bonding.

Q: What does it mean to you to represent Plattsburgh State on and off the field, court, track, etc.?
Being able to represent Plattsburgh State on and off the track gives me a sense of responsibility to uphold my school in a positive light and help show how hardworking my team and I are.
