MEET RESULTS
BROCKPORT, N.Y. – Junior
Charles Cypress (New Windsor, N.Y./Cornwall) won the 60-meter dash as the Plattsburgh State Men's Track & Field Team competed at Day 2 of the State University of New York Conference (SUNYAC) Indoor Championships. Sophomore
Tyler Baker (Plattsburgh, N.Y./Plattsburgh) also medaled for the Cards, placing third in the heptathlon.
The team finished in 6
th place, totaling 41 points, while Cortland won the meet with 233 points.
Cypress earns All-SUNYAC First Team honors in the 60-meter dash by virtue of his finish, while Baker earns Third Team plaudits in the heptathlon.
Senior
Faris Webber (Arlington, Va./Washington Liberty) was awarded the prestigious SUNYAC Elite 20 award, an award modeled after the NCAA ELITE 90 program, which recognizes the true essence of the student-athlete by honoring the individual who has reached the pinnacle of competition at the conference championship level in his or her sport, while also achieving the highest academic standard among his or her peers. Webber is a Supply Chain Management & Business Administration major who carries a 4.0 GPA.
Cypress matched his new school record that he set last night, running a 6.86 60-meter dash to earn his first career gold with the All-Atlantic Region Track & Field Conference (AARTFC) qualifying mark. Baker earned bronze as he scored 3,922 points in the heptathlon, winning the 60-meter dash, long jump, and high jump, while placing fourth in the 60-meter hurdles, pole vault, and 1,000-meter run. He also placed fifth in the shot put. Baker's mark is an AARTFC mark as well, but only the top 12 entries are accepted at the meet.
First-year
Thomas Clark (Stone Ridge, N.Y./Rondout Valley) scored for his team in the 60-meter hurdles, posting a time of 9.48 seconds. Junior
Jordan Williams (Bronx, N.Y./Cardinal Hayes) ran alongside Cypress in the 60-meter dash, placing sixth with an AARTFC mark of 7.01 seconds.
Sophomore
Isaiah Ritter (Peekskill, N.Y./Peekskill) nearly medaled for Plattsburgh, as he posted a new personal best jump of 6.83 meters, an AARTFC qualifying leap. First-year
Jackson Hooper (Elizabethtown, N.Y./Boquet Valley) earned a fifth-place finish in the high jump in his first career championships, clearing 1.85 meters.
The 4xx400-meter relay team of sophomore
Ryan Beltran (Bronx, N.Y./Cardinal Hayes) and first-years
Joshua Gaboriault (Saranac, N.Y./Saranac),
Jack Gregory (Guilderland, N.Y./Guilderland), and
Ethan Cypress (New Windsor, N.Y./Cornwall) placed seventh, as they had a time of 3:31.38.
The Cardinals are next in action at the AARTFC Championships, which will occur on March 7 and March 8 at Ithaca College.
