PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. – The Plattsburgh State women's lacrosse team kicks off their 2025 season when the Cardinals travel to Norwich on Tuesday, Feb. 25.

The Cardinals finished 4-11 (3-6 SUNYAC) in the 2024 season, tying Oneonta for sixth in the conference just missing out on the postseason, and will look to make the SUNYAC tournament for the first time in program history. Plattsburgh State is led by fourth-year head coach Kelly Wall, who has been with the program since its inaugural season in 2019, and second-year assistant coach Josh Walker.

"I am very much looking forward to this season. We have a solid group of returners and many great additions to our team this year," said Wall, "We have players that really want to win and are willing to put in the work to do that. Coach Walker and I are very excited to start playing games."

Plattsburgh brings back 15 returners, including their lone All-SUNYAC honoree junior defender Lillian Gilroy (Rome, N.Y. / Rome Free Academy). The Cardinals also bring back their top scorers in junior attacker Cynthia Barnosky (Shirley, N.Y. / William Floyd) and senior attacker Maddy Garcia (New Paltz, N.Y. / New Paltz). The team will welcome 10 newcomers to pair with a strong returning class.

Goalie:

The goalie group will consist of all new faces, including graduate student Mae Olshansky (Las Vegas, Nev. / New Trier) and first-year Ella Procyk (Stratford, Conn. / Lovell Academy) as each will compete for the starting role.

Defense:

After earning Third-Team All-SUNYAC honors last season, Gilroy returns to lead the defensive group. Gilroy led the team in draw controls with 60, which set a new program single-season record, and was second on the team in ground balls with 25. Sophomore Sloane Carr (Victor, N.Y. / Victor) had a big impact on the defensive end last season as she led the team with 26 ground balls and had 10 caused turnovers. Junior Ava Parsons (Vestal, N.Y. / Vestal) had a solid year with 12 ground balls and four caused turnovers.

Other returners include sophomores Chase Calandra (Rome, N.Y. / Rome Free Academy) and Maddie Carros (Bristol, Conn. / Bristol Eastern).

Junior transfer Lexi Carfi (Syracuse, N.Y. / Liverpool), who played one season at Wells College where she picked up 42 ground balls and caused 20 turnovers, and first-year Olivia Bustamante (Ronkonkoma, N.Y. / St. Anthony's) make up the rest of the Cardinal defenders.

Midfield:

Senior Caitlin Nash (Patchogue, N.Y. / Patchogue-Medford) was a key piece in the midfield, impacting the offensive and defensive ends. Nash was third in caused turnovers and in goals scored, with 12 and 10, respectively. Seniors Rachel LaMar (Ballston Lake, N.Y. / Shenendehowa) and Nicole Resnick (Latham, N.Y. / Shaker) both played in every game for the Cardinals last season and will bring that returning experience to the midfield. LaMar finished the year with 10 ground balls and seven points, while Resnick had nine ground balls and three points.

The team also welcomes back juniors Taya Balfour (Moorestown, N.J. / Moorestown), Anna Myers (Saugerties, N.Y. / Saugerties), and sophomore Isabella Girard (Plattsburgh, N.Y. / Plattsburgh).

Joining the midfield group are junior Emma McLean (Burlington, Mass. / Pomfret School) and sophomore transfer Iohseriio Tabor (Akwesasne, N.Y. / Salmon River).

Attack:

Barnosky was the catalyst behind the Cardinal offense, leading the team in goals and assists with 35 and 16, respectively. Garcia also had strong contributions, with 15 goals, which was second on the team, as well as junior Erica Dickinson (Yaphank, N.Y. / Bellport), who had 10 goals last season.

Sophomore Abby Guasconi (Ogdensburg, N.Y. / Ogdensburg Free Academy) along with junior transfers Alex LaDue (Saranac Lake, N.Y. / Saranac Lake), Shannon Mclaughlin (Moriches, N.Y. / William Floyd), and first-years Leah Klotz (Highland, N.Y. / Highland), Maggie Maurer (Stony Point, N.Y. / North Rockland), and Ashley O'Hara (Chittenango, N.Y. / The Hill School) round out a veteran attacking group.

Schedule:

The Cardinals finished 4-11 (3-6 State University of New York Athletic Conference [SUNYAC]) in 2024 under head coach Kelly Wall. The Cardinals just missed out on the tournament after losing the tiebreaker to Oneonta and will look to make the tournament for the first time in program history.

The Plattsburgh State women's lacrosse team starts their season on the road at Norwich on Feb. 25 followed by their home opener on Feb. 26 when they host Vermont State University (VTSU) Castleton. The team next hosts Union on Mar. 1 before three straight road games that begin with a trip to Clarkson on Mar. 11.

The Cardinals open SUNYAC play on the road at Buffalo State on Mar. 15 followed by a trip to Utica on Mar. 19 for the team's final non-conference contest of the season. The Cardinals next welcome Fredonia for their conference home opener on Mar. 22 before heading to Russell Sage on Mar. 26 and Cortland on Mar. 29.

Plattsburgh begins a two-game homestand when they host Morrisville on Apr. 5 followed by Oneonta on Apr. 8 and end the week at Oswego on Apr. 12. The team's final home game of the season will occur on Apr. 15 when they welcome New Paltz. The Cardinals finish their regular season with back-to-back road games beginning on Apr. 18 with Canton and then travel to Potsdam on Apr. 23.

The top six teams qualify for the SUNYAC tournament where the quarterfinals will be played on April 26 at the #1, #2, and #3 seeds. Then the semi-finals on April 30 at the highest remaining seeds and finally the Championship on May 3 at the highest remaining seed.
