Box Score PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. – The Plattsburgh State women's tennis dropped a non-conference match in their final home game of the season Wednesday, falling 6-1 to NCAA Division II Saint Michael's College.
Plattsburgh State moves to 5-2 with the loss and next travels to St. Joseph's Long Island for a match on Friday, Sept. 27. The Purple Knights improve to 2-6 with the win and next play Montreal in a home exhibition match on Saturday, Sept. 28.
Doubles action went the way of Saint Michael's as they won No. 1 and No. 2 doubles to secure the point before
Sophia Gottschall (Plattsburgh, N.Y./Plattsburgh) and
Megan Phelps (Ballston Spa, N.Y./Ballston Spa) won their match at No. 3 doubles 6-4.
In singles action, the Purple Knights quickly clinched the match win, winning at the top singles spots in swift matches to defeat the Cardinals. In No. 5 and No. 6 singles, however, Plattsburgh played well, as
Kristy Cantwell (Plattsburgh, N.Y./Plattsburgh) was able to win 7-5, 7-5. The final match of the day saw Phelps play well against her opponent, falling in three sets after taking the first, 6-0, 3-6, 6-10.
