Women's Track & Field Concludes Indoor SUNYAC Championships Finishing 8th

BROCKPORT, N.Y. – Senior Becca Christie (Bay Shore, N.Y./Bay Shore) and junior Sarah Smith (Lake Pleasant, N.Y./Wells) each scored points for Plattsburgh as the team competed in the Indoor Track & Field State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Championships on Saturday. The team finished in eighth place, scoring 18 points.

Christie finished eighth in the high jump, clearing 1.47 meters to earn a point for the Cardinals. Smith earned a seventh-place finish in the one-mile run, setting a new personal best with a run of 5:26.06.

Senior Deanna Zoch (Columbia, N.Y./Nassau) finished 10th in the 60-meter dash, just missing out on the finals with a personal best time of 8.23. Junio Morgan Thompson (Porter Corners, N.Y./Corinth) finished in 21st in the 400-meter dash, clocking in at 1:08.37. First-year Lillian Moran (Albany, N.Y./Colonie Central) competed in the 800-meter run in her first championship event and earned 15th place with a time of 2:31.18, just off her career-best of 2:31.17.

In the field, Michaela Schaffer (Clifton Park, N.Y./Shenendehowa) followed up a fifth-place finish in the triple jump yesterday with a 10th-place finish in the long jump, jumping 4.98 meters. Bliss Rhoads (Copake, N.Y./Taconic Hills) also competed in the shotput after throwing yesterday in the weight throw, as she finished 11th with a 10.99-meter throw.

The 4x400-meter relay team of Thompson, Grace Estus (Clifton Park, N.Y./Shenendehowa), Sophia Gambino (Belmont, N.Y./Genesee Valley), and Moran finished in fifth to score three points for Plattsburgh, finishing with a mark of 4:27.10.

SUNY Geneseo captured the team championship with 270 points.

Plattsburgh State will send a select number of individuals who have qualified to the All-Atlantic Region Track and Field Conference (AARTFC) Indoor Championships on Friday and Saturday, March 1-2, at Nazareth University in Rochester, N.Y.
