PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. – The Plattsburgh State women's tennis team celebrated four seniors on Saturday,
Sarah Benowitz (New City, N.Y./Clarkstown North),
Jacqueline Svantner (West Nyack, N.Y./Clarkstown South),
Nicole Svantner (West Nyack, N.Y./Clarkstown South), and
Samantha Svantner (West Nyack, N.Y./Clarkstown South), as the team fell 7-2 to Farmingdale.
With the loss, Plattsburgh falls to 5-3 on the season and will next play NVU-Johnson in road action on Thursday, Sept. 28 at 4 p.m. The Rams of Farmingdale improved to 3-2 with the win and will head to Castleton tomorrow, Sunday, Sept. 24 for a 1 p.m. contest.
The game began with Farmingdale State posting three wins in doubles play, taking a commanding 3-0 lead heading into singles play.
In singles play, Benowitz started off well for the Cards, winning 6-1, 6-1 at No. 3 singles. Down 3-1,
Samantha Svantner played a close match in her No. 1 singles, falling 7-6 in the deciding second set. The Rams clinched the win with a victory at No. 4 singles and added on with a win at No. 5 singles.
Nicole Svantner played an exciting match at No. 2 singles, twice going into a tiebreaker, but fell in a close third set. In the final match to finish,
Jacklin Mitchell (Plattsburgh, N.Y./Peru) moved to 7-0 on the year in singles play, winning 6-0, 6-0 in singles play.
