BINGHAMTON, N.Y. – The Plattsburgh State women's tennis fell in State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) action on Friday afternoon, falling 8-1 to Geneseo at the Binghamton Tennis Center.
Plattsburgh State falls to 8-5 (2-4 SUNYAC) with the loss and is eliminated from SUNYAC playoff contention. The team wraps up their Binghamton Tennis Center trip against Fredonia tomorrow, Oct. 7 at 9 a.m. Geneseo moves to 6-3 (4-2 SUNYAC) as they have solidified themselves amongst the top four in the conference. They next play Oneonta at 3 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 7, in a matchup that will likely determine where each is seeded in the Spring SUNYAC Tennis Tournament.
In doubles play, the Cards were able to stay competitive with an excellent Knights' squad losing 8-3 and 8-2 in No. 1 and No. 2 doubles. The lone Cardinal win of the day came at No. 3 doubles, as
Ava Carey (Nanuet, N.Y./Nanuet) and
Jacklin Mitchell (Plattsburgh, N.Y./Peru) defeated their opponents 8-5 in an impressive win. In singles play, Plattsburgh wasn't able to pick up a win as Geneseo cruised to the 8-1 win.
