Emily Kasprzak (Niagara Falls, N.Y./Pittsburgh Penguins Elite) each had a goal and one assist. Goals also came from graduate student
Julia Masotta (Tewksbury, Mass./Norwich University) and senior
Mae Olshansky (Wilmette, Ill./North American Hockey Academy) for the Cardinals.
The Cardinals finished the game with a 41-6 edge in shots on goal and went 0-3 on the power play. The Nor'Easters did not have a chance to play with an extra skater, as Plattsburgh did not have a penalty in the 60 minutes of action.
Plattsburgh State plays one more exhibition match against the Ottawa 67s on Wednesday, Oct. 25 at 7 p.m. before it opens up its regular season on Friday, Nov. 3, at 7 p.m. when it hosts Oswego State. The Nor'Easters concluded their exhibition games with their matchup against Plattsburgh and begin their season on Friday, Oct. 27, hosting Southern Maine.
Olshanksy scored the game's first goal, at the 12:38 mark of the first period, scoring off assists from Wasik and
Taya Balfour (Moorestown, N.J./Philadelphia Jr. Flyers). Working in their offensive zone, Balfour found Olshansky in the middle of the New England defense, where she deposited the shot over the right shoulder of the UNE keeper.
The Cards added three goals in the second period, widening their lead with an early score from Wasik, as Kasprzak followed suit about five minutes later before Masotta scored just before the end of the period.
Wasik picked up the goal with a deep shot just over a minute into the period, with her attempt just in front of the blue line finding its way into the upper right corner of the goal for the score.
The first-year Kazprzak scored off of assists from Boric and
Zsofia Pazmandi (Kaposvar, Hungary/Ontario Hockey) as the Cards skated out in transition led by Pazmandi. Pazmandi passed off to Boric who found Kazprzak skating into the middle of the offensive zone, where she evaded one defender and slotted the shot into the right corner of the net for the goal.
Masotta finished off the second period scoring with an excellent defense-to-offense sequence. Tipping away a UNE attempt to move the puck up the ice, the loose puck found its way to
Mattie Norton (Glen Carbon, Ill./St. Louis Blues) who played right back to Masotta. Masotta skated around two Nor'Easter defenders and went to the upper right corner of the net for the fantastic score.
The fifth and final goal from Plattsburgh came just before the end of the game's action, as Boric notched a goal off a loose puck from a faceoff. The puck found its way to Boric with no one in front of her but the UNE goalie, who took a slapshot to put the shot past the goalie's left side.
For the University of New England, Delanie Corcoran played the majority of minutes in goal, allowing two goals while making 22 saves. Kaleigh Laurendaeau started the game and took the loss, allowing three goals while making 14 saves.
