BROCKPORT, N.Y. – Senior
Janyll Barber (Dannemora, N.Y./Saranac) reset her own program record in the 400-meter hurdles, helping lead the Plattsburgh State women's track and field team on day one of the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Outdoor Championships hosted by SUNY Brockport on Friday.
Barber clocked a time of 1:01.61 in the first round of the 400-meter hurdles, which bettered her former record of 1:02.56 from May 16, 2019 at the All-Atlantic Region Track and Field Conference (AARTFC) Championships. That performance is currently ranked sixth in NCAA Division III and was the top qualifying time in the preliminary heats by more than two seconds.
Senior
Aislyn McDonough (Rouses Point, N.Y./Northeastern Clinton) ran the fourth-fastest 800-meter run time (2:17.79) in the first round of that event, while sophomore
Michaela Schaffer (Clifton Park, N.Y./Shenendehowa) scored points in the long jump with a fifth-place leap of 5.13 meters (16' 10").
Senior
Kristen Thomas (Islip, N.Y./Islip) placed 10th in the 10,000-meter run (42:44.22), senior
Kaitlyn Bjelko (Plattsburgh, N.Y./Beekmantown) took 11th in the hammer throw (39.33 meters – 129' 0") and 15th in the javelin throw (26.90 meters – 88' 3"), junior
Deanna Zoch (Nassau, N.Y./Columbia) finished 12th in the 100-meter dash (13.43), senior
Bliss Rhoads (Copake, N.Y./Taconic Hills) came in 14th in the javelin throw (27.12 meters – 89' 0") and junior
Jasmine Piper (Plattsburgh, N.Y./Plattsburgh) finished 16th in the hammer throw (35.31 meters – 115' 10") and the javelin throw (25.14 meters – 82' 6').
In the heptathlon, sophomore Katie Bergé (Fayetteville, N.Y./Fayetteville-Manlius) ranks ninth with a score of 1,585 points through four events, while junior
Mikayla Osmer (Cutchogue, N.Y./Mattituck) ranks 11th (1,242 points).
Action concludes at the meet tomorrow beginning at 9 a.m.
