CANTON, N.Y. – The Plattsburgh State baseball team had six pitchers limit host St. Lawrence University to three runs, only one of which was earned, in a 5-3 victory over the Saints in its non-conference finale Wednesday afternoon at Tom Fay Field.
Sophomore pitcher
Jack Scardino (East Setauket, N.Y./Ward Melville) was credited with the victory, as he pitched two innings of relief, allowing one unearned run while striking out one batter. Sophomore pitcher
Chris Santic (Stony Point, N.Y./North Rockland) earned the save, shutting the door with just one hit allowed in the ninth. St. Lawrence utilized seven pitchers in the loss, with sophomore pitcher Joe Perras serving as the pitcher of record.
Junior shortstop
Andrew Veit (Yaphank, N.Y./Bellport) paced the Cardinal bats, going 2-for-4 with one run scored. Senior left fielder Jake Delaney and junior first baseman Jimmy Liberatore each had multi-hit outings for the Saints.
Plattsburgh State rises to 20-15 overall with the victory, assuring itself of a final record above .500. The Cardinals open up a regular-season-ending, three-game State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) series against SUNY Brockport at Chip Cummings Field on Friday, May 6, at 3 p.m. St. Lawrence drops to 17-16 overall with the loss and next hosts Vassar College in a doubleheader on Saturday, May 7, at 1 p.m.

Conner Gonzalski (Cicero, N.Y./Cicero-North Syracuse) plated Veit with an RBI groundout. The Saints leveled the tally in the home half of the fifth, as first-year center fielder Caleb Clark drove in a run with an RBI double.

Michael Ascanio (Armonk, N.Y./Byram Hills) made it a 5-2 game when he drove in first-year catcher
Adam Wein (North Rockland, N.Y./Don Bosco Prep) with an RBI double to right field. While St. Lawrence got a run back in the eighth, Santic closed out the game in the ninth to seal the win.
