BROCKPORT, N.Y. – The Plattsburgh State women's track and field team is prepared to compete at the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Indoor Championships, which will occur from Friday-Saturday, Feb. 25-26, at SUNY Brockport's SERC Field House.
 
Senior Aislyn McDonough (Rouses Point, N.Y./Northeastern Clinton) posts the top entry place for the Cardinals, as she is seeded second in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:21.23. Senior Janyll Barber (Dannemora, N.Y./Saranac) is seeded third in the 400-meter dash (59.73), while senior Kaitlyn Bjelko (Plattsburgh, N.Y./Beekmantown) holds the sixth-best weight throw mark entering the competition (13.71 meters). Senior Rebecca Block (Lake Grove, N.Y./Sachem North) is the lone runner entered in two individual events, as she is seeded eighth in both the mile run (5:31.47) and the 5,000-meter run (19:34.52).
 
Plattsburgh State is well represented in the throws, with junior Jasmine Piper (Plattsburgh, N.Y./Plattsburgh) and seniors Journey Myricks (Westbury, N.Y./Shaker) and Bliss Rhoads (Copake, N.Y./Taconic Hills) all joining Bjelko in the weight throw with entry marks of 13.05 meters (10th), 12.87 meters (13th) and 11.75 meters (18th), respectively, and Myricks, Bjelko and Rhoads entering with the ninth-best (11.36 meters), 10th-best (11.30 meters) and 15th-best (10.59 meters) entries in the shot put, respectively.
 
Sophomore Michaela Schaffer (Clifton Park, N.Y./Shenendehowa) is competing in the triple jump (13th seed, 10.12 meters) and the long jump (17th seed, 4.77 meters), while junior Jessica Landman (Barneveld, N.Y./Holland Patent) and first-year student Sarah Smith (Lake Pleasant, N.Y./Wells) will run in the 400-meter dash (10th seed, 1:01.53) and the 3,000-meter run (13th seed, 11:27.74), respectively.
 
The championships begin at 3 p.m. on Friday and will continue on Saturday at 10 a.m. Plattsburgh State finished fourth out of eight teams when the indoor championships were last contested in 2020.
