OSWEGO, N.Y. – The Plattsburgh State women's cross country team finished sixth out of 10 teams at the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Championships hosted by Oswego State on Saturday at the Fallbrook Recreation Center, posting a score of 160 points.
Graduate student
Aislyn McDonough (Rouses Point, N.Y./Northeastern Clinton) was the top Cardinal finisher once again, marking the sixth race this year in which she has led Plattsburgh State. McDonough navigated the six-kilometer course in 24:52.7 at a 6:41 mile pace for 23rd overall. First-year student Marissa Colvin (South Glens Falls, N.Y./South Glens Falls) and sophomore
Sarah Smith (Lake Pleasant, N.Y./Wells) placed 38th (26:11.7) and 40th (26:23.1), respectively, while junior
Natalia Castro (Washingtonville, N.Y./Washingtonville) took 54th (27:24.1) and senior
Andie Carroll (New Paltz, N.Y./New Paltz) finished 61st (27:38.4). First-year students Virginia Lucchetti (Marcellus, N.Y./Marcellus) and Jodie May (Scotia, N.Y./Scotia-Glenville) rounded out Plattsburgh State's top seven with times of 28:39.4 (68th) and 29:27.7 (71st), respectively.
SUNY Geneseo won its 11th straight conference championship with a score of 30 points, while SUNY Oneonta's junior Megan Francoeur was the top individual finisher with a time of 22:40.5. SUNY Brockport (second, 76), SUNY Cortland (third, 80), Oneonta (fourth, 109), SUNY New Paltz (fifth, 133), Plattsburgh State (sixth, 160), Fredonia (seventh, 188) and Oswego (eighth, 205) rounded out the remainder of the team standings, while Buffalo State and SUNY Potsdam fielded squads with fewer than five runners and did not register a team score.
Plattsburgh State next competes at the NCAA Division III Mideast Region Championships on Saturday, Nov. 12, at 11 a.m. at St. Lawrence University.
