WATERFORD, Conn. – Junior
Jazz Roberts (Albany, N.Y./Guilderland) finished 14th out of 365 runners, helping lead the Plattsburgh State women's cross country team to a 23rd-place finish out of 29 teams (668 points) at the highly competitive Connecticut College Invitational hosted by Connecticut College on Saturday at Harkness Memorial State Park.
Roberts, a three-time PrestoSports State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Women's Cross Country Runner of the Week this season, cracked 22 minutes with a time of 21:52.7 in the six-kilometer race, averaging a 5:52.1 mile pace. She posted the second fastest time among Atlantic Region competitors at the meet.
Sophomore
Rebecca Block (Lake Grove, N.Y./Sachem North) finished 172nd with a time of 24:17.7, while sophomore
Kristen Thomas (Islip, N.Y./Islip) placed 238th (25:09.9). Sophomore
Aislyn McDonough (Plattsburgh, N.Y./Northeastern Clinton), senior
Mikayla Barrett (Rotterdam, N.Y./Schalmont) and freshmen
Madison Myer (Carthage, N.Y./Carthage) and
Ashlyn Hatzis (Highland Mills, N.Y./Monroe-Woodbury) rounded out the remainder of the Cardinal runners with times of 25:48.2, 26:24.0, 28:39.7 and 32:17.9.
The Massachusetts Institute of Technology topped the team standings with 75 points, followed by Williams College (second, 103) and Tufts University (third, 121). Ithaca College's sophomore Parley Hannan finished first individually with a time of 20:52.2.
Plattsburgh State next competes at the SUNYAC Championships on Saturday, Nov. 2, at 12 p.m. The meet, which is hosted by SUNY New Paltz, will occur at the Hudson Valley Sports Dome in Milton, N.Y.
