Cardinals Shut Out Blue Devils, 2-0, To Lock Up Top-4 Seed In SUNYAC Playoffs

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. – The Plattsburgh State women's soccer team shut out Fredonia, 2-0, on Friday at the Field House Complex to guarantee them a Top-4 spot in the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) tournament.

Plattsburgh State improves to 11-5 overall and 5-3 in the SUNYAC while Fredonia moves to 7-9-1 overall and 3-4-1 in the conference.

The Cardinals out-shot the Blue Devils 19-3 with 12 shots being on net.

Eight minutes into the game freshman forward/midfielder Allison Seidman (Commack, N.Y./Commack) found the back of the net to record her sixth goal of the season.

Junior midfielder Rachael Moran (Hopewell Junction, N.Y./Arlington) intercepted the ball at midfield and passed it over to freshman forward Kirsten Villemaire (Plattsburgh, N.Y. / Beekmantown) who delivered it to the left side for Seidman to find.

The Cardinals defense held the Blue Devils to just two shots in the first half.

In the 59th minute sophomore midfielder Abigail Seamans (Diamond Point, N.Y. / Bolton Central) scored from just outside the box arching the ball into the top left corner of the net with the assist from Seidman.

Plattsburgh State's defense only allowed one shot from Fredonia in the second half.

Graduate goalkeeper Taylor Adams (Schenectady, N.Y./Notre Dame-Bishop Gibbons) logged her seventh clean sheet of the season after making two saves.

Seidman and Seamans each had three shots on goal, Villemaire had two while junior forward Katie Matott (Rouses Point, N.Y./Northeastern Clinton), junior midfielder Sarah Bonner (Yorktown Heights, N.Y./Yorktown), freshman midfielder  Erin Metzger (New Paltz, N.Y. / New Paltz) and freshman defender  Jenna McCracken (St. Albans, Vt. / Bellows Free Academy) all had one.

The Cardinals are back home Saturday, Oct. 20, for their final SUNYAC regular season game at 1 p.m. against Buffalo State.
