Cardinals Eliminate Buffalo State And Secure Fourth Seed In SUNYAC Tournament In 2-1 Win On Senior Day

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. – The Plattsburgh State women's soccer team secured the fourth seed in the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) tournament and eliminated Buffalo State after beating them 2-1 Saturday evening at the Field House Complex on Senior Day.

Plattsburgh State goes into playoffs with a 12-5 overall record and 6-3 in the SUNYAC while Buffalo State finishes their season 4-11-2 and 3-6 in the conference.

The Cardinals battled both the wind and their opponent as the Bengals received 27 fouls and two yellow cards but they played through it and prevailed.

Plattsburgh State's first goal came ten minutes in when junior midfielder Sarah Bonner (Yorktown Heights, N.Y./Yorktown) booted the ball from the defensive end into the Bengals zone.

Junior forward Katie Matott (Rouses Point, N.Y./Northeastern Clinton) found Bonner's pass and headed the ball over to freshman forward/midfielder Allison Seidman (Commack, N.Y./Commack) who came in from the left side and put the ball into the bottom right corner.

The Cardinals out-shot the Bengals 14-3 in the first half.

Buffalo State tied the game in the 46th minute.

In the 61st minute, the Bengals took a foul that led to a successful penalty kick by senior defender Jessica Mangieri (Farmingdale, N.Y./Farmingdale) that ended up being the game winning goal.

Plattsburgh State out-shot Buffalo State 9-4 in the second half and had 11 shots on goal overall compared to the Bengals six.

Seidman recorded four shots on net, freshman forward Kirsten Villemaire (Plattsburgh, N.Y. / Beekmantown) had three, Bonner had two while Mangieri and junior midfielder Rachael Moran (Hopewell Junction, N.Y./Arlington) each had one.

Graduate goalkeeper Taylor Adams (Schenectady, N.Y./Notre Dame-Bishop Gibbons) made five saves in the 90:00 she played.

Plattsburgh State is home Saturday ,Oct. 27, to host Oneonta at 1 p.m. for the first round of the SUNYAC tournament.
