GAME 2: Plattsburgh State 9, John Jay 3

Freshman pitcher Matt Fox threw a complete-game six-hitter in his first collegiate start to lead Plattsburgh State to a 9-3 win, it's first of the year.

The Cardinals scored five runs in the bottom of the first inning off of losing pitcher Charles Mendes.  Ray Flynn laced an RBI single, while Manny Boccini drilled a two-out, two-run single. Freshman Ryan Whalen followed with a two-run double.

After John Jay cut the lead to 5-1, Plattsburgh State tallied three runs in the fourth inning by taking advantage of a hit batsman, a walk, a wild pitch and a throwing error. Eric Rock added an RBI single in the frame.

The Cardinals tallied their final run in the fifth when Boccini crossed the plate with a daring straight steal of home.

Boccini led the offensive attack with two hits, two runs and two RBI, while Flynn tallied two hits.

Plattsburgh State concludes its South Carolina swing with two games tomorrow. In the opener, the Cardinals will face Johnson & Wales at 10 a.m. before taking on Lehman at 1 p.m.
