PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. – A balanced effort from the Plattsburgh State women's basketball team helped the Cardinals defeat the Buffalo State Bengals 82-56 in SUNYAC Conference action on Saturday afternoon.
Plattsburgh State did not have much luck in conference games this season, still searching for its first win entering Saturday's game.
The Cardinals came out of the gates running, scoring 22 first quarter points and 18 second quarter points to take a 40-27 lead at the break.
The Bengals made a short run in the third but the Cardinals capitalized on their opportunities, shooting 21-28 from the charity stripe, including 10-11 in the second half to seal the deal.
Plattsburgh had one of its best games from the floor, shooting nearly 42% on field goals and 26% from three point range.
The Bengals on the other hand were out rebounded by the Cardinals 52-45 and only managed to shoot 30% from the floor.
The Cardinals were led by its veterans on Saturday. Forward
Devona Paul dropped 24 points and five rebounds. Senior
Stephanie Linder only managed six points, but did the dirty work for Plattsburgh State, grabbing 15 boards and dishing five assists. Graduate Student
Misha Green finished with 11 points and seven rebounds, while senior
Allie Taylor added a double-double on 12 points and 11 boards.
The Bengals saw a strong outing from Jordan Yastremski who posted a 15 point, 11 rebound double-double. Clarisa Matias was the only other Bengal to finish in double figures with 12 points.
Plattsburgh State improves to 7-4 this season, and 1-3 in conference, while Buffalo finds themselves at 6-6 overall, and 2-3 in SUNYAC play.
The Cardinals will be on the road next weekend at Oswego on Friday and Cortland on Saturday.
