PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. – Five players scored in double figures for the Plattsburgh State women's basketball team on Saturday night. However the Cardinals found themselves on the wrong end of a 82-73 decision against the Brockport Golden Eagles at Memorial Hall.
It was a high scoring game early in the contest. Plattsburgh forward
Devona Paul dropped 10 points in the first quarter as the Cardinals held a slight advantage 22-18 after one.
Brockport was able to even the score at 30 by the time intermission hit. Hannah Spencer and Faith Welch both had eight points at the break.
It was the Golden Eagles who found a groove in the second half, shooting 55 percent from the floor and 80 percent from beyond the arc.
As impressive as that may sound, the Cardinals stuck right with Brockport, trailing by only a few points late in the fourth quarter. Plattsburgh State proceeded to intentionally foul the Golden Eagles who were able to pull away at the free throw line and seal the victory.
Paul finished with 21 points and four assists for the Cardinals.
Monique Jones added 10;
Stephanie Linder dropped 14 while
Misha Green and
Allie Taylor scored 11 each to round out those in double figures for Plattsburgh. Taylor also added 10 rebounds to pick up her fourth double-double of the season.
Hannah Spencer netted a game high 26 points for Brockport. Faith Welch was not far behind at 23 points for the contest.
With the win the Golden Eagles improve to 10-6 (6-3 SUNYAC) on the season. Plattsburgh State finds themselves at 9-6 (3-5 SUNYAC).
The Cardinals will host the SUNY Geneseo Knights on Sunday at 5 p.m. in Memorial Hall.
