PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. – It seemed there was a lid on the basket for the opening minutes of the Plattsburgh State women's basketball team (9-7, 3-6 SUNYAC), as a slow start plagued the Cardinals in a 62-43 decision against the Geneseo Knights (11-4, 6-2 SUNYAC) on Sunday night.
The Knights opened the game on a 12-1 run in which the Cardinals found opportunities, but just could not seem to find the bottom of the net.
Misha Green hit two three pointers to get Plattsburgh State going, but the Knights 23 first quarter points gave them a 10 point lead after one.
Allison McKenna was dominate down low for the Knights, accumulating 12 points and five rebounds in the first half, leading Geneseo into the break with a 40-27 lead over Plattsburgh State.
The second half was more of the same for Plattsburgh State, shooting only 20 percent from the floor.
On a positive note, the Cardinals improved on the amount of turnovers given up per game, only managing 13, while forcing 17 turnovers against the Knights.
Senior
Allie Taylor led Plattsburgh with eight points and seven boards. Green added seven points and four rebounds while
Jessica Dolan tallied six off the bench.
McKenna finished with a game high 17 points. She added 10 rebounds to complete the double-double. Katie Durand added 13 points and four assists for Geneseo.
The Cardinals will look to regroup this week and prepare to head out on the road for another set of conference matchups against Buffalo State and Fredonia this weekend.
