CORTLAND, N.Y. – For the second straight game the Plattsburgh State women's basketball team found themselves battling a late surge, this time by the Cortland Red Dragons. Unfortunately the Cardinals couldn't slow the Red Dragons in a 62-57 decision on Saturday afternoon.
The Red Dragons jumped out to an early 7-0 lead before the Cardinals could settle in and run their offense. After doing so, the Cardinals found themselves with a 29-27 lead at halftime due in part to holding Cortland to nine second quarter points.
Entering the fourth quarter it seemed that every time Plattsburgh State found some cushion, the Red Dragons answered right back.
Monique Jones hit a three pointer with 2:40 remaining to give the Cardinals a four point lead. From here it was Cortland who finished the contest on a 9-0 run to improve to a 10-3 overall record and 5-1 SUNYAC Conference record.
With the SUNYAC weekend split, the Cardinals are now 8-5 overall and 2-4 in SUNYAC play.
Devona Paul led Plattsburgh State with 26 points and eight rebounds.
Allie Taylor chipped in with 13 points.
The Red Dragons' Stephanie Rice netted 15 points, while Cassidy Chapko tossed in 14 of her own.
Plattsburgh State will see short rest before heading to Potsdam to take on the Bears on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m.
