Emery, Five Cardinals Recognized with SUNYAC All-Conference Honors

CORTLAND, N.Y. – The State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) unveiled its All-Conference awards Tuesday with Coach Bob Emery receiving Coach of the Year honors along with five players representing Plattsburgh State on All-Conference teams.
 
Emery received his seventh SUNYAC Coach of the Year of the year award and first since 2012 after guiding the Cardinals to a 20-5-2 overall record that included a 13-2-1 conference record that was tops in the SUNYAC. As the No. 1 seed in the SUNYAC Tournament, Emery helped Plattsburgh State claim its 22nd SUNYAC Championship with a 2-1 victory over Oswego State.
 
Four Cardinals were selected to the SUNYAC All-Conference second team in seniors Brandon Beadow, Michael Cassidy and Connor Toomey. Joining the trio of seniors is junior defenseman Anthony Calabrese.
 
Junior forward, Kevin Emmerling was selected to the SUNYAC All-Conference third team.
 
Captain defenseman Beadow has been a staple along the blue line all year. The Kapuskasing, Ontario, native leads a Plattsburgh State defense that is eighth in the nation in scoring defense just giving up over two goals a game. On the season Beadow has eleven points on two goals and nine assists. The senior was also named a member of the SUNYAC All-Tournament team.
 
Michael Cassidy makes his first SUNYAC All-Conference team appearance while currently in the midst of a breakout season offensively. In his first three years Cassidy had a total of 13 goals before exploding onto the scene this year. Hailing from West Seneca, N.Y., Cassidy currently is tied with a team-high 12 goals on and is second in points with 26.
 
The Merrimack transfer, Connor Toomey has been a solid addition for the Cardinals offensively as Plattsburgh State ranks eighth in the country in scoring offense averaging 4.22 goals per contest. He has a team-leading 31 points on 12 goals and 19 assists. The Billerica, Mass., was named the SUNYAC Tournament MVP after scoring twice against Brockport in the semifinals before notching a goal and an assist on the game-winner in the SUNYAC Championship game.
 
Junior Anthony Calabrese gets his first All-SUNYAC nod landing on the second team. The Bridgeton, N.J., native leads all Plattsburgh State defensemen with 17 points and 13 assists. 
 
Kevin Emmerling for the second time in his career was selected to the SUNYAC All-Conference third team.  He made it during his freshman campaign when he received rookie of the year honors as well. The Northbridge, Mass. product has netted nine goals so far including three on the power play. The junior is one of the best in the conference at staying out of the penalty box as he has only been whistled once all season long.
