Box Score PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. – For the fourth time in 12 games the Plattsburgh State women's soccer team went into double overtime, defeating New Paltz 2-1 in the 106
th minute.
The Cardinals dominated the game from start to finish outshooting the Hawks 35-9 including 9-2 in the overtime periods.
However despite the large shot advantage the game would be 0-0 at the half and New Paltz would be the first team to light the scoreboard.
In the 66
th minute Sloane Lipshie would fire a shot outside the top of box, over the extended arms of Cardinal's goalkeeper,
Nichole Gibson.
The Cardinals would find the equalizer in the 74
th minute on a rebound shot off a corner kick.
Plattsburgh State took a shot off of a corner kick that Hawk's goalie Mikaela Stiklickas punched out. On the punch, the Hawks' goalkeeper lost her balance as the ball bounced right to
Devin McMahon who one-timed it into the back of the net.
The game would see extra time as the two teams were knotted at 1-1.
This evening's game-winner would come off the foot of senior midfielder
Cassidy Clavet halfway through the second overtime.
Clavet rifled a shot from 30 yards out over the head of Stiklickas and into the back of the net.
The Cardinals improve to 8-3-1 (3-1-0 SUNYAC) on the season while the Hawks drop to 2-10-1 (1-3-1 SUNYAC).
Plattsburgh State will look for its fourth conference win on Saturday when they host Oneonta at 1 p.m. in a reach match of last year's SUNYAC Quarterfinals.
