PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. – The Plattsburgh State women's ice hockey team returned to the ice Sunday afternoon in an exhibition game, defeating the Dawson College Blues 5-4.
Dawson College opened the scoring with the first two goals of the game three minutes apart midway in the first period to take a 2-0 lead.
Sophomore,
Melissa Sheeran would cut the Blues lead in half with her wrap-around goal in the waning seconds of the first period to make it 2-1.
In the second period, Cardinal's
Katelyn Turk would tally two goals to give Plattsburgh a 3-2 advantage through the first 40 minutes.
The Blues would knot the game back up at 3-3 a 1:17 into the third period.
With 14:07 left in the game, Cardinal's sophomore
Olivia Fox would sneak a shot inside the left post to recapture the lead for Plattsburgh State, 4-3.
Dawson College wouldn't go away though as the Blues would tie the game up again at 4-4 with just 3:16 remaining in the third period.
However, Fox would give the Cardinals the lead again on a power play goal just 45 seconds after the Blues tied it, that Plattsburgh State would hold on to.
Camille Leonard started the game for the Cardinals making 10 saves in the first two periods.
Plattsburgh State will start its season on the road at Norwich in the ECAC East/West Showcase on October 31.
