Cardinals, Golden Eagles tie 1-1 in Double Overtime

Anissa Hartmann fired five shots on goal while Devin McMahon added two on net against Brockport on Saturday.
Box Score PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. – The Plattsburgh State women's soccer team played its final regular season game Saturday against Brockport, tying the Golden Eagles 1-1 in double overtime.

The opening 45 minutes was a battle of field position as seven total shots (Plattsburgh State – 5, Brockport – 2) were taken between the two sides.

In the second half, Brockport got on the scoreboard early as less than five minutes in, Chelsea Stahl collected her fifth of the season. Stahl was on the receiving end of a Courtney Szczesniak through ball that freed her for an open shot on top of the six yard box.

That would be the only shot the Golden Eagles would take all half as the Cardinals dominated time of possession in the second half, shooting with the wind in their favor.

It wasn't till sophomore Madeline Saccocio bent in a corner kick to tie the game at 1-1 in the 84th minute to force overtime.

The goal came on the 10th of 13 second half shots for the Cardinals.

Plattsburgh State would keep the pressure on the Golden Eagles in the two 10 minute periods, outshooting Brockport 11-0.

The Cardinals, however, couldn't find the game-winner, as the match ended in a 1-1 draw.

Plattsburgh State finished the afternoon with a 29-4 shot edge and a 7-1 corner kick disparity.

This is the second tie on the season for Plattsburgh State as they go to 11-5-2 (5-3-1). Brockport finishes its regular season 7-5-4 (3-3-3).

With the draw, the Cardinals finish the State of the New York Athletic Conference in fourth place and will host these same Golden Eagles next weekend as Brockport finished fifth in the standings.
