Cardinals Soar Past Badgers, 7-1

Anissa Hartmann added three more goals Tuesday night against Johnson State to give her a SUNYAC-high 13.
Box Score PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. – The Plattsburgh State women's soccer team entertained a nonconference game Tuesday night when they hosted Johnson State, downing the Badgers 7-1.
 
Plattsburgh State got off to an early lead, netting four goals in four minutes.
 
Anissa Hartmann got the scoring started when she scored a pair of goals in the fifth minute to give the Cardinals a 2-0 lead.
 
The Fairfax, Vt., native scored both goals in similar fashion. She received the ball just past midfield, sprinting past the defense and beating Badgers goalie Nichole Weeks low on breakaways.
 
The Cardinals would score another pair of goals in a 30 second span when Caitlin Gagen and Devin McMahon would score their fourth and third goals respectively.
 
McMahon would assist on the Gagen goal setting her up on the right side of the field. Gagen would cut inside the Badgers defense before sending a low shot past Weeks.
 
Brooke Knight would assist on the McMahon goal sending a pass to the Holbrook, N.Y., native 10 yards out on the right side of the box. McMahon would settle and fire a shot far side to make it 4-0.
 
Madison Trombley would join the scoring action, tallying her first goal of the season. Trombley took a shot from the top of the box in the 32nd minute that would give Plattsburgh State a 5-0 lead going into the half.
 
At the start of the second half Johnson State would net a goal of its own. Hollie Smith scored her first of the season off a rebound shot by Mikaela Rutter. The scoring chance originated off a Badgers corner kick.
 
Plattsburgh State would add two goals late in the 84th and 86th minute.
 
Madeline Saccocio beat Weeks low far post from right outside the left of the six yard box.
 
Hartmann would complete her hat-trick performance and give the Cardinals their seventh goal when her shot from inside the box found the back of the net.
 
Nichole Gibson earned her 10th win for the Cardinals playing the opening 17 minutes before turning it over to Taylor Adams. Adams collected one save in 73 minutes. Badgers goalie Weeks made 20 saves in a losing performance.
 
The Cardinals outshot the Badgers 47-6 on night and 10-1 in corner kicks.
 
With the win Plattsburgh State captures its 10th of the season and improve to 10-5-1 overall. Johnson State falls to 5-10-0.
 
The Cardinals will return to conference play when they host Geneseo and Brockport of Friday at 3 p.m. and Saturday at 1 p.m. respectively.
