Box Score PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. – The Plattsburgh State women's soccer team hosted top SUNYAC team in Oneonta, falling to the Red Dragons 1-0 Saturday afternoon.
For the second-straight year Jessica Lyden of Oneonta would net the game-winner against the Cardinals.
Last year in Oneonta, N.Y., Lyden headed a corner kick in the 90
th minute to propel the Red Dragons to a 2-1 victory.
This year the senior from Burnt Hills, N.Y. didn't wait as long to sink the winner. In the 36
th minute Lyden received a pass from Julia Cranz on top of the box. She would collect the ball, turn and fire her 20 yard shot over the head of Cardinal's goalkeeper
Nichole Gibson to make it 1-0.
The rest of the game each team would battle back in forth but ultimately the Red Dragons proved to be too tough to crack.
The Red Dragons would own advantages in both shots (17-7) and corner kicks (8-3).
Despite the loss, Gibson finished the afternoon with eight saves. Kelley Murphy collected her third shutout, making four saves in the process. This is the seventh time in 11 games Oneonta has shutout their opponent.
After the defeat, Plattsburgh State slips to 8-4-1 (3-2-0 SUNYAC) while Oneonta improves to 9-1-2 (5-0-1 SUNYAC) and remains undefeated in SUNYAC play.
The Cardinals will look to get back in the win column when they hit the road for their western New York trip at Fredonia State and Buffalo State on Friday and Saturday respectively.
