Cardinals Suffer First Loss of the Season to Elmira, 2-1.

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. –The top-ranked Plattsburgh State women's hockey team battle No. 2 Elmira Saturday afternoon falling for the first time all-season, 2-1.

The first period was even as both teams fired 11 shots on net but neither could light the lamp.

The second period would produce some offense as each team would hit pay dirt once.

First was Elmira 4:03 into the second period when defenseman Brooke Wilcosh would skate in on a two on one firing one over the glove-side shoulder of Cardinal goaltender Camille Leonard.

The Cardinals would respond midway through the second after Elmira goaltender Kyle Nelson would pick up a two minute penalty for roughing.

Sophomore, Jordan Lipson would score her second power play goal and seventh of the season when she banked one off Nelson and in.

However, in the third period Elmira would regain the lead on the power play when Cassidy Delainey would net her nation leading eleventh power play goal. Delainey positioned in the slot would beat Leonard glove high as the Cardinal goalie was trying to slide over.

Cardinals' goaltender Leonard made 23 saves on 25 shots while her counterpart Nelson finished with 35 saves on 36 shots.

With the loss Plattsburgh State moves to 15-1-2 (11-1-0 ECACW) while Elmira improves 16-1-1 (11-0-0 ECACW)
