Box Score GENEVA, N.Y. – The Plattsburgh State women's hockey team defeated William Smith for the second-consecutive evening, this time by the score of 11-1.
The freshman combo of Kayla Meneghin and Melissa Sheeran was back on performance in the first period. Meneghin would make it 1-0 8:02 into the period with Sheeran picking up the assist.
Three minutes later the roles would reverse as Sheeran from Meneghin would put Plattsburgh State up 2-0 through the first twenty minutes of action.
The Cardinals would then erupt for six goals in the second period as five different goal scorers would all find the back of the net for Plattsburgh State.
The scoring started with two goals in nineteen seconds by Jordan Lipson and Giovanna Senese to give the Cardinals a 4-0 advantage.
Senior sniper Shannon Stewart would tally two of her own goals in thirty seven seconds on her way to a hat-trick performance.
Senese would finish with two goals as her and Stewart were the only multi goal scorers Saturday night.
Eleven different Cardinals finished with at least one point and eight with multiple points.
Ally Ross earned the start in net for Plattsburgh State stopping nine of the ten shots she faced.
William Smith goalie Emily Spencer played all sixty minutes for the Herons gathering 54 saves in her first collegiate start.
With the win Plattsburgh State moves to 12-0-2 and 9-0-0 in the ECAC West. William Smith, in their first season as an ECAC West member, and in their first season as a Division III member fell to 2-11-1 and 1-7-1 in the ECAC West.
Plattsburgh State finished the weekend outscoring the Herons 21-1 that included a 133-21 shot advantage.
The Cardinals will return to the Ronald B. Stafford Ice Arena for their first home game of the second semester on Saturday at 3 p.m. as they welcome Oswego for a weekend double header.
