Cardinals Blank SUNY Canton in 10-0 Rout

Plattsburgh State women's soccer team celebrates 10-0 victory of SUNY Canton
Box Score PLATTSBURGH N.Y. – The Cardinals and head coach Tania Armellino couldn't have asked for a better home opener this Wednesday night, cruising past SUNY Canton 10-0.

Plattsburgh State (2-1-0) struck the back of the net early and often tonight, scoring three goals in a three minute span between the eight and 11 minute mark.

Junior midfielder Cammey Keyser started the scoring for the Cardinals when she one-timed a cross from freshman Lindsey Bushey.

Bushey's night was just starting as the Plattsburgh, N.Y. native accounted for the next two goals to give Plattsburgh State a 3-0 edge. Devin McMahon connected both times with Bushey. First, McMahon dished the ball ahead to Bushey where she then settled it, turned and fired one into the top of the net.

A minute later McMahon threw in a cross from the right side of the field in the box that found Bushey's head and went into the mesh. Bushey finished the night with five points and now has three goals on the season.

Then the Brooke Knight show began at the end of the first half. Knight went onto to tally two goals in the 32nd and 39th minutes. Knight scored her first goal on a scramble after the ball was sent into the box by Vicky Scott. The ball bounced around until eventually falling to the boot of Knight where she then tapped it in.

Knight's second goal came unassisted when she stole the ball from a defender, raced down the left side, beat another defender before sending a scolding shot near post under the keeper from a tough angle.

Vicky Scott scored her second goal of the 2014 campaign in the 43rd minute, as she dribbled the ball to the top of the right box before striking it past the keeper to cap a 6-0 first half lead for the Cardinals.

The Cardinals assault continued quickly in the second half as sophomore Anissa Hartmann scored 33 seconds in. Hartmann collected a pass from Knight on the top of the box that she gathered and laced in.

Knight wasn't done quite yet either as she assisted again on the next goal this time to Kelly Siry. She located Siry on a pass across the box where Siry was able to bury the ball far side into the back of net on the.

Knight finished the night two and two for six points.

Sarah Haight scored her first collegiate goal and became the third freshman to score on the night. Haight shot the ball which caught a piece of the keeper but still was able to trickle behind the line and into the goal.

Christen Averill finalized the scoring for the Cardinals as Hartmann sent her a pass into the middle of the field. Averill beat the defense before netting one in the bottom right corner from 10 yards out.

Shots were 25-4 in favor of the Cardinals with 16 of their shots being located on goal.

SUNY Canton (2-1-0) suffered their first loss of the season after defeating Vermont Tech and Paul Smith's this past weekend. Goalkeeper Liz Lynch collected six saves for the Kangaroos in a losing effort.

Plattsburgh State will try to keep its win streak alive this Friday night at 7 p.m. against the Soaring Eagles of Elmira at the Plattsburgh High School soccer field.
