Box Score TROY, N.Y. – Plattsburgh State's (4-1-0) impressive start continues as they earn its fourth consecutive shutout victory, defeating RPI (1-2-0) 1-0.
The classic quality over quantity cliché was on prime example Thursday night as the Cardinals one shot on goal was the only shot to touch the twine.
Lindsey Bushey continued her early season heroics for Plattsburgh State as she scored her third game-winner of the season. She leads the team with five goals in five games and owns a team-high eleven points.
The home grown Plattsburgh N.Y. native scored a sizzler in the 53
rd minute to propel the Cardinals to victory. She gathered a loose ball outside the box on the attacking half of the field before making one touch and rifling a thirty yard shot into the top left corner over the goalie to rattle the net.
As Bushey goes, so does the Plattsburgh State defense. The Cardinals defense was tested and tested often tonight but for the forth straight game didn't buckle. RPI out-shot the Cardinals 14-6 (6-1 shots on goal) and held a 7-2 corner kick advantage.
The Engineers had two golden opportunities but the senior net minder Danielle Schmitt was unphased. Closing the first half in the 45
th minute RPI had several looks on net including a Coley Mowder header that went off the crossbar.
Maybe the best chance the Engineers created all night came late in the 83
rd minute trailing 1-0. Cori Winslow was able to slip by the defensive line of the Cardinals but Schmitt kept her poise and came out to make the save.
Plattsburgh State will be pressured again as they go back on the road against currently nationally ranked #24 Middlebury Tuesday evening at 4 p.m. in its quest for five straight wins.
