Aston, Pa. – The Plattsburgh State women's hockey team hit the road for a 10 hour bus ride to Neumann to pick up its first ECAC West win of the season knocking off the Knights 3-1.
The Cardinals got on the board 9:31 into the first when freshman Kayla Meneghin scored her second of the season giving Plattsburgh a 1-0 lead that would hold through the first period.
Neumann would start the second period quick scoring the tying goal 38 seconds into the period when Bek Lucas beat Cardinal goaltender Ally Ross making it 1-1.
Senior Morgan MacInnis would respond for the Cardinals as she found the back of net for her first of the season to recapture the lead for good as Plattsburgh led 2-1 12:16 into the second period.
Then Melissa Sheeran would provide the dagger as her lone goal of the third period made it 3-1 Plattsburgh.
Ross made 15 saves on 16 shots for Plattsburgh as her and the Cardinals move to 2-0-1 (1-0-0 ECACW) while Justina Mayr made 42 saves for the Knights in a losing effort as Neumann falls to 0-3-0 (0-3-0 ECACW) overall.
The Cardinals and Knights will face off against each other again Sunday at 2 p.m. as Plattsburgh goes for the weekend sweep over Neumann.
