Box Score

ASTON, Pa. – The Plattsburgh State women’s hockey team skated to a 4-0 victory at Neumann University Sunday afternoon in an Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) West matchup to wrap up an unbeaten regular season.

With a 23-0-2 overall record, it’s a bit of déjà vu for the Cardinals. Plattsburgh State also accomplished the same feat during 2006-07, finishing the regular season with the same mark.

Much like Saturday’s game, Chelsea VanGlahn provided two goals to spark the Cardinals’ offense. The junior forward scored the lone goal of the first period from Giovanna Senese and Sara Lanni at 18:29 to give Plattsburgh a 1-0 lead at the first intermission.

The nation’s top power-play unit flexed its muscles Sunday, scoring the last three goals of the game and finishing 3-for-7 on the day. Allison Era tallied a power-play marker at the 7:06 mark of the second period to put the Cardinals up by two.

Teal Gove scored her team-leading eighth power-play goal at 7:41 of the third period to add to Plattsburgh’s lead. VanGlahn rounded out the scoring just 1:22 later with her second of the afternoon from Alyssa Parke.

Plattsburgh goaltender Sydney Aveson stopped all 20 shots she faced to earn her seventh shutout and improve to 19-0-2 on the year. Neumann’s Shannon Donnelly recorded 42 saves in the loss.

The weekend sweep gives Plattsburgh State a 15-0-1 record against conference opponents and secures the top-seed for the ECAC West playoffs. Elmira will enter the postseason as the second seed and also receive a first-round bye to the semifinals, which will be hosted at the Stafford Ice Arena. The official tournament seedings and schedule will be released by the ECAC West on Monday.
